The new Age

Since the invention of technology through the ages we now come to what tech has evolved into, with the introduction of the internet (world.wide.web) social contacts are now a thing of the past.
Facebook/Twitter
Facebook is one of the chief social networking sites that allows you to communicate with people from all over the world you can befriend people in certain industries to find out what you need for a job prospect, but you can also use it to show your work.

Twitter is another chief social networking site it allows you to follow people and they can follow you, depending on your posts this is also a good way to post your work and get the attention of certain people.

Having your own website or setting up a Facebook or Twitter account is one of the best ways to get noticed because it seems nowadays everything is on either of those sites.

A large number of devices have being created to successfully display animated images were introduced well before the motion picture. They were used to entertain and even frighten their audiences, a majority of the devices could only be viewed by one person at a time, because of this they were viewed as toys rather than a good inventions. The Magic lantern and Thaumatrope are examples of these devices.

.
The magic lantern (1650)

The Magic lantern is an early version of the modern day projector, It consisted of a  oil painting, a simple lens and a candle or an oil lamp. In a dark room, the image would appear projected onto the opposite flat surface. It was often used to show demonic, frightening images to convince people that they were witnessing the supernatural events. Some slides for the lanterns contained moving parts which makes the magic lantern the earliest known example of projected animation. The origin of the magic lantern is still debated, but in the 15th century the  inventor Giovanni Fontana published an illustration of a device which would be used to project the image of a creature on his wall. The earliest known magic lantern have been credited to Christaan Huygens or Athanasius Kircher

Thaumatrope(1824)

The Thaumatrope was another early form of animation in the Victorian times but it was a toy, it was a circular disc that had two different pictures on each side that was attached to a piece of string/ or a set of strings going through the center, once it was twirled quickly between the fingers, it would give the illusion that the pictures combined to form one image. This demonstrates the brains ability to perceive an image, the invention is credited to Sir John Herschel but it was  John A Paris who popularized it in 1824.

With the invention of the mobile phone it has allowed people to communicate a lot more easily over the years since the invention of Morse code, but as phones are getting much smarter i.e Android phones, ice cream sandwich. A lot of the mobiles now have internet access on so you have internet on the go which works for people who don't always have access to a computer. (android icon)

Romans

The Romans brought forth the massive development in sculpture / which derived  itself form the greeks,

With their ability to capture the beauty of the human body, the detail was impeccable, you will also find in this era that a lot of the sculptures were nude, a lot of their sports were dangerous such as lions taking on  gladiators.

Their other art styles include mosaics, which were pictures made up of thousands of tiny different coloured stones.

Below the sculpture dedicated to the legend of Romes beginning. ( she-wolf feeding Romulus and Remus)

The Romans early art was influenced by the Greeks and their neighbors the Etruscans,  whose specialty was to carve tomb sized pictures out of a dark material named terracotta. Terracotta was also used by the chinese to carve warrior statues to be buried with the emperor.

renaissance And the middle ages

The middle Ages

The middle ages was a time of poverty and the social status was the aristocrats(rich), middle class working people and , the poor.
The main export of this era was their art it was mainly revolved around their religion mainly Christianity  to help bring the style of their art culture forward. Since this era was filled with poverty a lot not many people could afford to pay for paint unless they were really rich.

The renaissance marked the close of the middle ages and gave way to the beginning of the modern world, the rebirth of culture from the 14th to 17th century the early renaissance began in Italy, it then extended/ matured in northern Europe.

The main changes that this era brought was the change in the art style, mainly a lot of portraits containing realism, this was a way of breathing life back into the artwork to make it seem a lot like it was right in front of you and you had witnessed every expression, movement everything.  Leonardo Di Vinci was famous for his art from this era, including all the legends surrounding his work, the only form of animation in this time was the different changes in the movement of limbs, these were drawn in different poses to understand how your body moves.
( below the last supper and the Mona Lisa) what you notice about his work is the use of light and linear perspective.

His work was mainly to do with balance. But other artists of this era had to be able to capture the person or scene from their sight and put on to paper without confusing people.
But like all renaissance art it was mainly revolved around religion.

ancient greece

The ancient greeks were the next era of people to usher in new communication methods, they took the original alphabet created from the ancient egyptians and changed it to letters this allowed people to read what it said also due to the language barrier (they wouldn't be able to translate it)  making the communication better and helped to further improve peoples reading and writing.

Greek animation came in the for of their plays and painted vases/ sculptures when they painted or carved some thing it always had a good story behind it.
As you can see with this particular vase it depicts their different kinds of sports that were practiced during those days.  The Greeks form of animation was very clever indeed below is a plan view of a vase depicting the story of a man named Sisyphus if you spin  the vase around on the potters wheel you could see the story move like an early version of the flipbook.

Pre- history

The development of communication

During the Pre-historic times the only way used for communication was by doing drawings of their daily lives including hunting, foraging. This was also the earliest form  of animation because most of the drawings were done in sequences. It also is one of the earliest ways to record events.

The paintings were generally used to distinguish people from each other, they did this by covering their hands in paint and printing them on the wall next to whatever they drew or just in their homes.

Ancient egypt

The People of Ancient Egypt created a Communication using drawings just like the prehistoric people but with a difference, they created the alphabet using animals or pictorial symbols for the letters.

The Egyptians used papyrus ( a type of paper) to write stories about their deities, their art was mainly linked to religious purposes like which kind of god to worship for what you need at that moment in time.

Their pharaoh's had their stories depicted in painted carvings, along the side their would tell the story of the pharaoh's life and ruling.

Even the main throne room had hieroglyphs

The new language/ alphabet was to allow people to communicate through writing letters on their papyrus sheets to each other, since they lived in such an enclosed kingdom letters were very easy to deliver.

The animation in this period was the use of pictures showing different positions in movement. This particular one shows the training of Egyptian soldiers.
Because of this improvement in communication the civilization thrived.
